Description
NZERN
has an unpaid internship always available for an Ecology student.
Would suit a skilled post graduate who wants real world experience.
First come - first served. Work involves developing and populating
an existing ecosystems database from existing data, and improving
a monitoring toolbox to support community lead ecological restoration
projects. NZ datasets include soils, ecological districts, taxon
attributes, climate, hydrological, land use, geology, species
distribution and observational.

Most of this is office work using a computer. There is also field work using ArcPad.
There is an extensive software and biodiversity library to find answers to those problems you will encounter. You may also need to visit the two local university libraries (Canterbury & Lincoln) to dig up missing information and meet with local ecologists.
Skills
Confidence
using ESRI ArcInfo 8 or 9. You need to be keen to learn new skills,
be a good worker and like working as part of a happy team of very
experienced volunteers. There will be opportunities to give presentations
at the occasional seminar.

We can provide a signed confirmation letter or internship contract for your professor.
NZERN is unable to assist with visa applications or work permits.
NZERN is unable to provide accommodation or food.
The office is fully equipped, tea and coffee is supplied
Duration
Typically
interns come for several months full time or part time.
