Description
NZERN has an unpaid internship always available for an student who needs practical ecological restoration experience. Would suit a student who wants real world experience. First come - first served. Depending on the season, work involves:

  • Seed collection
  • Plant identification
  • Nursery construction
  • Nursery plant propagation
  • Site planning
  • Preparing ground for planting
  • Planting trees
  • Pruning
  • Weed & pest control
  • Making bird nesting boxes
  • Stream, forest and bird monitoring
  • Making paths, bridges, gates and fences
  • Making signs
  • Building amenities
  • Tool and equipment maintenance

The work will be organised by NZERN and done with local conservation groups.

Resources
Local community based restoration projects in and around Christchurch.

At the NZERN office, there is an extensive biodiversity library to find answers to those problems you will encounter. You will have the opportunity to meet leaders from many projects.

Skills
You need to be fit and strong and like outdoor work. You need to be keen to learn new skills, be a good worker and like working with minimal supervision. There will be opportunities to write reports on the work you do during rainy weather.

Conditions
The internship is unpaid

We will a signed confirmation letter and an internship contract for your professor.

NZERN is unable to assist with visa applications or work permits.

NZERN is unable to provide accommodation or food.

The office is fully equipped, tea and coffee is supplied

Duration
Typically interns come for several months full time or part time.

The position is open until filled.
